~~~ Although the Shieldon had quite easily avoided the move, Lucas kept a slight smirk as he began to concentrate on the battle. Whilst the prior move seemed like a horrible miss, in reality Lucas wasn' expecting all that much in the first move, he just wanted to know if his Ralts knew any thing else besides growl. And now that it was out of the way, they could finally atually start battling, even if his Ralts couldn't actually damage the pokemon itself.
"Alright quick Equinox, move towards the trees. As soon as the Shieldon charges towards you, fire a confuse ray at it before jumping out of the way." Lucas commanded his pokemon with his plan. Although Lucas didn't like shouting out all his commands to his pokemon, he had no other choice at the moment. He just hoped that the Shieldon would actually attack and that Equinox would actually follow the plan.
Keeping his eye on the Shieldon and the woman and his pokemon, and his Ralts which was making its way towards the trees, settling for a spot underneath it, Lucas wondered if the Shieldon knew any long range attacks, as it could also foil his plans and he was sure that the red haired woman knew this as well. Well whatever, he had already commanded it so he just had to go with it and see how it all panned out.
Eying his Ralts just lazily glancing up at the tree instead of focusing on the battle, Lucas sighed lightly. "Equinox! Focus!" He shouted with authority. It quite possibly could take quite awhille to train his Ralts.
[Gym Leader of Celadon Laboratory] Psychic pokémon were always Sarien's hardest type. She never clearly understood the way they battled other pokémon. Perhaps, it was her lack of psychic abilities that made it so difficult for her to understand the ways of psychic pokémon. She could train them like any other pokémon, but unlike the others, she never fully mastered their abilities. Though, she was confident in her ability to defeat them. She had never failed that. Sarien always hoped to lose against young trainers; these were people destined to be warriors.
"I highly doubt that my shieldon will fall for that," Sarien thought to herself, listening to the boy give commands to his young pokémon. "Protect yourself," She told the shieldon, who gave an acknowledging grunt to her direction. "With some protection, the young Ralt's confuse ray will be even weaker than normal." Sarien was uncertain of what the creature was capable of, she would have to find out. "Tackle it!" She commanded and the shieldon began to charge.
~~~ As Equinox turned around to face the battle, the Shieldon was already charging ahead at him. More out of instinct than anything, Equinox jumped out of the way instantly, just barely evading the attack. "Equinox use confuse ray now!" Lucas commanded as soon as his Ralts landed. Equinox fired off a confuse ray at the Shieldon the instant he got up, attacking much more quickly than last time.
It wasn't exactly as he planned it but Lucas figured it was still good enough. Whilst he usually preferred things to go exactly to plan, he mentally repeated his fathers words in his mind. "Expect everything and prepare for the unexpected. Learn to come up with plans on the go." Lucas figured it was decent enough advice but everything was just so much easier when it all went to plan. Either way, as Lucas was learning, you can't always plan out everything though it would be a lot more convenient.

[Gym Leader of Celadon Laboratory]
Species • Shieldon Level • 5 Moves • Protect, Tackle Sarien knew that the more and more times that the young Ralts casted Confuse Ray, the more pain that the Shieldon would be exposed to and ultimately, the more confused and incapable he would become. As the blast hit him once again, the young pokémon squeezed his eyes shut until the pain ended. "Cast Protect, Sheildon," Sarien mumbled to her little pokémon. For a moment, Sarien didn't think that the young creature was going to do anything. He sat there for a moment and seemed dazed, but then, he scratched the ground and casted a small shield over himself. Then, he stood his ground and awaited the next attack.

~~~ Lucas watched the battle unfold as he attempted to conjure up a backup plan, to no avail. Perhaps it was his inexperience or lack of knowledge yet Lucas could not come up with a secondary plan to defeat the Shiledon, he just needed luck, something which he didn't want to rely on.
After the Ralts had fired a confuse ray at the Shieldon, both trainer and pokemon watched the opposing pokemon in anticipation with Lucas slightly anxious as to what may happen next. It appeared to him to be a direct hit though there was no telling how a confused pokemon would react. Failing to hear the woman's command and only noticing the Shileldon scratching the ground, Lucas figured it was time to get a little more aggressive in confusing the Shieldon. "Equinox, circle around the Shieldon whilst firing various confuse rays!"
Equinox just seemed to stand there for a few moments, not attempting to move whilst keeping his eyes on his trainer, a doubtful expression on his face. It didn't feel bothered enough to move around, who did the human think it was just, some hyperactive mankey? Turning its attention back to his opponent after noticing the determined look on his trainers face, Equinox began to feel a fragment of his trainers same determination start to flow through him, much to his chagrin. Firing another confuse ray at the Shiledon without taking note whether the pokemon was still using Protect or not, Equinox as quickly as he could moved to the side in an attempt to enact his trainer's plan.
